Dr. De Genna examines patterns and correlates of substance use in pregnant and parenting people. One current research project is a mixed-methods research study examining cannabis and tobacco use in young pregnant persons (R01DA046401). Another project is co-developing a prenatal tobacco cessation intervention targeting depressive symptoms together with people who have lived experience of prenatal tobacco and cannabis use (R01DA057946). De Genna is interested in substance use and pain as a function of intersecting identities related to age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and mental health.
